Vendors advertise hundreds of ready-made integrations. But the one that matters when it counts is for your in-house tool, your legacy system, your niche software, and that one is in no catalog. Why integrability depends on the open interface, not on the length of the connector list.
"500 ready-made integrations" sits on many product pages as if the number were the argument. For the most common systems, a prebuilt connector is convenient, no question. But the integration a project actually fails on is almost never one from the list. It is the self-built ticket tool, the industry software from 2015, the script that pulls the exports at night. There is no ready-made connector for that, and there never will be.
Integrability is measured at the edge, not in the middle
So the right question for a platform is not how many connectors it ships with, but what happens when none of them fit. Is there a documented, open interface you can connect through yourself? Can you get data not only in but back out again? Does the system react to events, or do you have to keep asking it? These three points decide whether a platform fits your landscape or only the vendor's.
The connector catalog is a snapshot
Prebuilt connectors age. A vendor changes its API, a tool is replaced, a new one appears. Whoever relies only on prebuilt links then waits on the provider. An open interface makes you independent of that: you connect what you have today and what arrives tomorrow, without waiting on someone else's roadmap.
